Presentation

30 years of the Sculpture Symposium: Since 1992 and the 1st symposium around the theme "Stone and water", 170 works have been produced and disseminated throughout the territory (including 43 on the famous Menet stone path, 45 on the 'Getaway to Aix en Provence, 75 essentially in the town, the Community of towns of Pays Gentiane and beyond). About 150 sculptors participated with a diversity of artists from all over the world (Europe, Japan, South Africa, etc.) including several of international renown such as Léon Potzany, Henri Escurat, René Perazzi and the sculptors of Carrara (Italy). Based on a family and friendly mode of operation, the symposium addressed various themes that refer to the elements, current events and links with our territory. Its exceptional longevity based on the perfect osmosis between the village of Menet and its secular know-how and loyal and renewed visitors each year with more than 2,500 to 3,000 visitors for two weeks. This anniversary year will be the one that will welcome from July 9 to 23 again 5 sculptors selected from around a hundred applications from all over the world who will work around the theme "Perspective" from blocks of trachyte extracted from the nearby Puy de Menoyre which are transported and worked on the place of the monument in Menet (a total of 2 weeks of working the local stone, 3 days in the quarry to clear the blocks, then debitage using wedges, roughing out using electric tools from the each sculptor then goes down to the Place du Foirail, each sculptor reveals his project using traditional manual tools, in front of the public who can gradually appreciate the development of the work).
